Debt. It’s all I ever talk about nowadays. Well I can’t help it you see, I am in Debt and that’s why I spend a lot of time writing about it.

In fact, if I received a pound for every word I wrote about debt, I probably wouldn’t be in debt any more. Struggling with Debt? Well then read on for some advice and information on what you can do to get some help and start to move forward.

How Bad is your Debt problem?

I guess that because you are struggling with your debt, it must be pretty bad. Here are some examples of when you could be considered to be struggling with debt: –

– You receive debt collection letters demanding repayment.

– A Creditor has taken you to Court to claim payment of a debt.

– You are behind on your payments.

– You have maxed out all of your Credit Cards.

– You have rent or mortgage arrears.

– You owe a large amount of money, for example credit cards, store cards or personal loans.

– A large proportion of your income is used to pay off your debt.

– You don’t have enough money to make your repayments.

– You are worrying, unable to sleep or are panicking about your debt.

The above list is not a definitive one. It just provides some general examples and I would imagine that at least one of them applies to you. I could be wrong though. I don’t mind.

What can you do when you are struggling with Debt?

The good news is that there is always some way you can take control and begin to sort out your debt problem. Whether that be tackling the situation yourself or seeking the help of a debt charity, there is a solution out there for you. The most important thing is that you take action now.

I am a broken record when I say this but, the longer you leave it, the worse things may get. Don’t be afraid to take action. If you are not confident to tackle things on your own then seek help.

Tackling Debt on your own

If you are feeling brave and would like to tackle things yourself, you can. Depending on how bad your situation is you could either make some cuts to your expenditure to try and get back on top of things, or you could negotiate more affordable repayments with your creditors.

You could consider setting up your own Debt Management Plan. Normally this type of plan is suitable for people who owe less than £15,000 and can make a decent monthly payment. This is how I manage my debt, and I owe a lot more money than that.
