The fact that I am currently in Debt means that I can do nothing other than wait until I have paid everything back.

One thing I will be looking to do is to stay out of debt once everything has been paid back.

Previously I got out of Debt but ended up back in an even worse situation and I hope to avoid this next time around.

This post looks at staying out of debt and provides some suggestions on how this could be achieved.

Let’s take a look at how to stay out of debt.

1. Learn to Budget.

Sticking to a budget is important if you would like to stay out of debt.  Exercising financial discipline will mean you can keep in control of your money and know where you stand.

Budgeting can be a bit tedious but it is worth it if it means you can stay out of debt.

2. Start Saving for emergencies.

Having cash available to cover emergency expenses is important. It means that should you have an unexpected bill, for example repairing your car then your main budget should be unaffected as you have the savings to take care of things.

3. Use Credit Sensibly or not at all.

If you see something you would like to buy, save up for it instead of putting it on the credit card. If you are savvy then you could use a 0% interest credit card but only if you know you can pay back what you owe before the interest kicks in.

4. Live within your means and spend less.

This goes without saying but spend only what you can afford, and don’t use credit to live a champagne lifestyle on a beer wage. Spending money you haven’t got often ends up with you being in debt.

5. Buy items when they are on sale and not at full price.

Waiting to make purchases at the right time can save you money. There are often sales throughout the year meaning you can pick up a bargain if you are willing to wait for a while.

6. Pay with cash instead of your debit card.

Seeing the physical cash in your hand has more of an effect than using plastic. It might help you spend less when you see just how much money you are handing over for things.

7. Don’t open Store Cards.

Having a store card means you may be tempted to spend when you shouldn’t. For example typically stores will have special events on which could result in purchases you simply don’t need. Avoid the trap.

Staying out of Debt

Staying out of debt is difficult, especially when you have been so used to being in in debt. However if you can change your attitude towards money it is possible to avoid getting into debt again, and all the things that involves.
