Mackenzie Hall are currently collecting two of my debts. One for a company called QuickQuid and the other for a company called Payday UK. I thought I would share my experiences of what Mackenzie Hall have been like to deal with over the last few years.
When I first saw they were collecting these debts, I was expecting a challenge based upon what I had read elsewhere on the Internet. In the beginning my thoughts were correct but more recently they have been quite fair and easy to deal with.
In the beginning
When I first spoke to Mackenzie Hall things got off to a bad start. I was calling about one of the above accounts. The advisor on the phone said I had to pay back the account in three months otherwise they would take me to court. Not only that but that they would get an attachment of earnings order straight away.
I am no expert, but my understanding is that an Attachment of Earnings Order would be applied for after they have got a County Court Judgment. Only if I didn’t make payments as directed by the court would they then be able to apply for this attachment of earnings order.
I was told I was wrong, and that my repayment proposal was not acceptable because the account was a payday loan and should be paid back with one payment. I was told they were offering me a favour by letting me pay back the account over three months.
Naturally I explained this was not possible. I told them to take me to court and we will see how it goes from there. They never did. At least if they had of taken me to court, I would have been able to get a repayment plan in place. It wasn’t meant to be though I guess.
The Letters Continue
So instead of them taking me to court, I received numerous letters chasing payment, threatening legal action. They would not accept my repayment proposal that I had made over the phone so it was a catch 22 situation. The letters just seemed to go round in a big circle to be honest.
After three months I decided enough was enough and so I sent off my own offer of repayment letter as well as an income and expenditure form, making it clear that my situation was very severe and I could not meet their demands. If I could have I would, one less debt to deal with would have been great.
Mackenzie Hall Accept my Repayment Offer
Finally they agreed to my offer of payment. After around six months I received a letter asking me for a review with a view to me increasing the amount I paid to them. I copied and pasted the letter and the income and expenditure form I sent previously and reiterated that I could not increase my payments. I owe a lot of money at the end of the day.
The arrangement was reset and this has continued for about 2 years now with little or no hassle. The good times are rolling.
Contacting Mackenzie Hall by e-mail
I tend to contact Mackenzie Hall by e-mail now and they are OK to deal with. I recently changed jobs and was unable to make a payment this month. They were absolutely fine with this and have reset the arrangement. I can only guess they have changed their ways or just realise it is not worth pressuring me into something I cannot do.
Contacting Mackenzie Hall by phone
I am also quite happy to call them and again they are quite pleasant with me on the phone. I have no idea why but that’s how it is. I suppose that fact I am paying them is why. I do owe the money, and I am not one try and wriggle out of not paying because something wasn’t done properly or the agreement wasn’t right. Perhaps I should be but that’s a whole different story.
In Summary
So to conclude my thoughts on Mackenzie Hall, they were a bit nasty in the beginning but seemed to have mellowed out now. I am making my payments and they are leaving me alone. That’s all I can ask for really. Long it may continue.
