For about two years now I have been thinking about changing my job. I have been very unhappy for some time now and having really thought about things I started to take a look at what was available on the market. I have been in my current job for just under eight years.
One of the major obstacles is the debt I am in. As you may or may not know, I have a lot of it. The fact I have used quite a few holidays means that I will owe some of them back when I leave. That means taking a hit on my monthly wage.
After a couple of months job hunting, I secured a new role. Originally I had planned to get a job that paid more money and was closer to home. Unfortunately that just didn’t come into fruition, the more money part at least. The new job is about 10 miles nearer so I got one thing right.
I have reached a point in my current line of work where I am completely burned out. I have had enough and need a change. With that change comes a drop in salary. Perhaps not the best choice when in debt but it is a choice I am making. I work in IT at the moment, a stressful thankless job.
What about the Debt?
The change of job does mean having to write to all my creditors to let them know of my plans. I will be letting them know that I am unable to make the payment due on the 4th April until the following month. I will also be sending out new offers of payment due to the drop in my income.
I have also taken this opportunity to perform a thorough review of my Income and Expenditure and also cut down some costs to save more money.
It’s actually quite a lot of work and I expect that some of my creditors will be difficult. I had actually forgotten how much work is involved as I am effectively starting again, making new offers and amending standing orders etc.
However it is definitely the best choice for both myself and my sanity. Being in debt is horrible don’t get me wrong, but I have learned to accept that situation and I am generally happy. However waking up each morning, dreading going to work and letting those thoughts spoil your weekend make you think, why am I working here? OK so the money is good but if I hate it and it makes me unhappy it is not worth it. That’s my view any way.
So in terms of my debt, there will be a payment blip this month with full service to resume in May. I will be making a lower monthly payment and all the plans I made at the beginning of the year are effectively on hold. I will be in debt for a bit longer than I anticipated but at least I am still paying it off. I will also restart in updating my monthly debt balances, and will hopefully stick to updating it. I will try and organise that information so it is easier to read too.
I think I will be much happier at my new place of work and this should be a big boost to my energy levels. Hopefully then I can spend a bit more time on this blog and provide more regular updates for you.
