Lowell Financial have been or are collecting some of my debts. One of the debts which I settled with Lowell was for Three Mobile. The next two debts are still outstanding and are for my O2 and Aqua Card debts. Lowell have purchased these debts, most likely for a fraction of what was owed.
I thought I would write a bit about each of the debt collection agencies I deal with, so you can see what they are like. You can also let me know what you think by commenting if you like.
Dealing with Lowell
I have dealt with Lowell on a number of occasions. Responding to letters, speaking to them on the telephone and most recently making offers to pay off my accounts.
My first dealings with Lowell Financial was when they purchased my O2 debt. Everything went smoothly and I set up a new arrangement to pay. That was about 18 months or so ago if my memory serves me correctly.
The next time I heard from Lowell was when they contacted me about my Aqua Card Account. Moorcroft was collecting the account previously but Aqua must have sold the account and Lowell purchased it. I immediately informed them that I was disputing some charges Aqua Card had made, and I asked for a complete breakdown of what was owed.
The Aqua card account was put on hold for 30 days whilst the information was gathered. A couple of weeks later original copies of my statements for the Aqua Card arrived. Top notch because it mean’t I could double check the statements to see what charges had been added. Shortly after this I made an offer to pay the account and things have been fine since then. Unfortunately, so far I have been unable to get back my Aqua Card Charges.
Telephone and E-Mail contact with Lowell.
I can’t recall there being any issues when I have spoken to them on the phone. On several occasions I have been informed by Lowell Financial about the services of StepChange Debt Charity as they can see the scale of my debt problem. I thanked them for this but explain I am doing OK. It is good though that they at least make people aware that they can get help if needed.
I have sent e-mail to Lowell on a number of occasions, mainly to make offers of repayment or to explain that I can’t make a payment. After a couple of days I typically receive a reply confirming acceptance and the plan is normally reset. The reply is usually sent back by e-mail and includes all the information I require in electronic format.
When I ask for a statement of account, this is sent through to me within a short space of time. All in all my dealings with Lowell Financial have been good and I can’t complain really. I feel I have been treated with respect and have been helped in working towards a solution to pay off the debt.
I owe the money so it is quite simple, I should pay it back. However some people have debts that are genuinely disputed and perhaps have a much different experience but I can’t say for sure if that is the case.
How do Lowell Compare to other Debt Collection Agencies?
They are one of the easier debt collectors to deal with. Like I say above, I haven’t experienced any trouble with them. They respond to my e-mails, are polite on the phone and don’t give me any grief. Offers of payment have been accepted without any fuss and when I have missed payments, I have been able to get back on track. So to summarise they are OK compared to some debt collectors I have dealt with.
How about you? Have you had any problems with Lowell or have they been OK for you? Please leave a comment to let me know your thoughts.
